My god, it’s *Online* Affairs. Timezones don’t matter.

Honestly, this sub has just gotten worse and worse over the years. It used to be that people were here looking for a connection, regardless of where in the world they were. There are hundreds of local groups, if you want someone near you, go post in them.

Even at the most extreme, there is plenty of time to talk. Do you need to be in a constant conversation for 16 hours a day? Where is the mystery in that? Where is the time to think and crave and appreciate that person?

I live in a timezone where I can talk to someone in the US from early/mid afternoon until they go to bed, and for a few hours in the morning. If you are only here to be distracted during work and don’t want to talk when your partner is around, then this isn’t for you.

I’ve talked to plenty of people in *difficult* timezone differences for months and years, and that was in a time when people actually put in the effort. Almost every connection I’ve tried to make in the past year is so low effort on the other end it’s absolutely demoralising.

People talk a lot in these posts. How they want closeness and craving and even love and devotion. But people need to realise that relationships of any type require work and effort.

Edit 2: I appreciate the chats and comments - I guess my ultimate ideal is maybe think about whether you bother to put a timezone or location restriction on your message or ignore people who aren’t where you are.

Maybe you’ll find that connection you’ve been looking for outside your bubble.
