I must be new here

I know I’m new around these parts, so perhaps it’s just me. That being said: can anyone shed light on why men leave comments *announcing* they’ve sent a chat request in ladies’ ads? Like…we can SEE the chat request. It’s not a hidden mystery that requires a code to be cracked. To me, it comes off as desperate and insecure and is an instant turnoff.

Can anyone help explain this really obnoxious pattern I’m noticing?

ETA: Wow! Some of y’all are really eager to explain this phenomenon *in chat*. I commend your dedication to improving my knowledge. (Shudders while staring at the *chat request* number inch ever higher, tells herself, “Once more unto the breach…”)
